Since history, Egyptians had established cities across the river, they had built their houses, temples and tombs by their own thoughts and beliefs. The ancient Egyptians’ buildings had been created by a unique pattern of architectural language in addition, the used materials, paintings, motifs, patterns and plants were related to their culture and identity. Architectural regionalism has emerged as a significant role in shaping the Egyptian architecture through history. In recent years, the contemporary identity of Egyptian architecture has been lost. This paper aims to explore the role of architectural regionalism in defining and expressing the evolving identity of Egyptian architecture in the modern era. Through a comprehensive literature review, the research problem, research aim, and key concepts, including architectural regionalism, architectural identity, and contemporary Egyptian architecture, are examined. The paper also presents international and local case studies to illustrate the practical application of regionalist principles. The findings suggest that embracing architectural regionalism can serve as a strategic method to reconnect Egyptian architecture with its cultural heritage, climatic context, and social aspirations, ultimately contributing to the development of a distinctive contemporary Egyptian identity.
